Telephone policy

This policy applies to all members of the co-op including Management Committee, staff and volunteers. It outlines the appropriate standard of behaviour expected of those using telephones, including the use
of private mobile telephones.

  1. Telephone access at Alfalfa House is provided for members performing work for the co-op.This includes all staff, Management Committee and volunteers.
  2. Personal calls are not to be made by members other than staff. Reasonable personal telephone use by staff for local calls only – excluding calls to mobile numbers – is permitted in non-work time at a current cost of 20 cents per call subject to the following conditions:
    1. During breaks on days that you are rostered to do a shift and only if your use of the telephone does not interfere with other staff performing their duties;
    2. Before and after your shift on days that you are rostered to do a shift and only if your use of the telephone does not interfere with other staff performing their duties;
    3. Money for phone calls is to be placed in the telephone jar in the till area.The current charge of 20 cents may change subject to changes in the cost of calls to the co-op
    4. Money collected is then banked and shown as Staff Telephone Money in the monthly Profit & Loss Report.
  3. Mobile telephones
    1. Staff and volunteers are requested to strictly limit the use of their mobile phones while working at Alfalfa House.
    2. Mobile telephones are to be switched off when working in the shop.
    3. Staff receiving a call to their mobile in the office, should move into the storeroom or backyard area to take the call and keep the call as brief as possible.
  4. Personal local calls received by staff, Management Committee and volunteers should be kept as short as possible and, preferably, be returned outside usual working hours or during rostered breaks provided such calls do not interfere with the usual operations of the co-op. Calls returned in breaks should be brief and no more than a few minutes.
  5. Breaches of the Telephone Policy may be subject to disciplinary action.
